The Acting Career of Stephanie Beatriz

The recipient of a bachelor's degree in performing arts from Hampshire College, David Nicksay has spent the majority of his career behind the camera as an executive producer. Having been involved in the production of films such as Legally Blonde, Birth of the Dragon, and Walking with Dinosaurs 3D, David Nicksay's latest venture is a screen adaptation of In The Heights, which was originally created for Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The movie will be directed by Jon M. Chu in his first film since Crazy Rich Asians. In The Heights is set for release by Warner Brothers in 2020.

Miranda, who is producing the film (along with Scott Sanders, Mara Jacobs and Anthony Bregman,) recently revealed three additions to the cast: Daphne Rubin-Vega, Dascha Polanco, and Stephanie Beatriz, the latter of whom has acting ties to Miranda. Beatriz, who will assume the role of Carla, is best known for her portrayal of Rosa Diaz on the TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Earlier this year, Miranda appeared on an episode of the popular NBC sitcom.

Although Beatriz has been acting since high school, she didn't receive her big break until being cast in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Prior to that, she appeared only in guest roles in a handful of TV series and movies, including The Closer, Jessie, Southland, and The Smart One. Since landing the role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Beatriz has garnered additional guest roles on shows like One Day at a Time and Into the Dark. She has also lent her voice to The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and the animated series BoJack Horseman. She had co-starring roles in the films Half Magic and The Light of the Moon.
